Something New

Spinning!
Why Spinning?
It is important to me to understand the mechanics behind artwork. I'm a person how learns by touch, so when I have the opportunity to fully experience something artistic I usually jump at that opportunity.
This is Debra, owner of Picasso's Moon my favorite yarn shop. www.picassosmoonyarn.com
I have been marveling at her wonderful art yarns for about a year now. The last time I was in her shop, Debra said,"You know Ginny ,you could spin yarn just like that. I can teach you." I then replied,"How about next week." Debra said,"Anytime, I'm always here."

My daughter enjoys knitting as I do. So when I ask her if she wound like to learn to spin she said,"sure!". Not really knowing what to expect,Rachel and I jumped in the car and headed down to Picasso's Moon.
Rachel and I walked into the yarn shop, the first thing we heard was the most welcoming voice I have ever heard in my life. It was Deb,"Hi,girls! Come on in, I'll get you all set up." With in ten minutes Rachel and I were both sitting in front of spinning wheels.
The first thing Debra said to us, before she give us any instruction was,"I'm warning you up front this spinning thing can be addicting."
Rachel and I looked at one another,as if to say, okay we're going for it. After all,how often do you have the opportunity to be surrounded by wonderful fiber, texture and color, learning how to spin art yarn.
Here is Rachel, working on her new skills ,spinning white Merino roving onto her bobbin. Debra has introduced Rachel and I to a whole new world, that we are falling in love with.
After five wonderful hours of sitting and spinning, Rachel and I each had a large spool of yarn.
That was yesterday.
Today we were back at our spinning wheels. Debra taught us many new techniques that we were able to put into practice.
This is our first art yarn.
Rachel and I spent two days at the yarn shop, a total of ten hours. The time flew by. Spinning is one of the most relaxing, calming, peaceful, yet stimulating art's
 I have ever experienced.
Debra was right, I am addicted. Rachel is addicted. We are art yarn spinning addicts. Yah! More spinning in my future!
