Did you know that pineapples are a sign of welcome?
People have used real pineapples as well as ornamental pineapples, to beacon guest to their doors, for centuries.
Pineapples have zero fat and cholesterol. They are a wonderful source of vitamin C,B6,thiamine,manganese,and fiber. Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelian that helps to digest protein. The juice of a pineapple makes for a great meat tenderizer.
Since we are talking pineapples today, I thought I might share with you how to plant them. Pineapples grow very well in a subtropical climate. The pineapples above were planted about four months ago.
Purchase a pineapple from your local grocery store or produce stand. Place your pineapple on your cutting board and cut off the top.
Remove the leaves from the bottom of the pineapple, you will see what look like roots.
You are now ready to plant your pineapple top. Pineapples need a shallow hole, just deep enough for the roots to be covered. Plant your pineapple top in the hole you just made. Gently scoop your soil around your pineapple top. Pineapples like to be watered from the top. You can feed your pineapple apple cores.( Yes! - after you have eaten an apple put the core in the center of the pineapple top.)
Sit back and enjoy watching your pineapple grow. Happy planting!
