Weekends are the perfect time
to experiment and try new things.
Have you ever wanted to
refinish something so that it looks
as if it has been around for a while?
Today I will show you how to use
an easy wipe on, wipe off method of refinishing.
You can do this!
Pull out your drop cloth and place your project
on top of it.
(A stool is a good size for a first project.)
You will need two colors of acrylic paint, one in your color palette
and the other color needs to be a puddy color.
(I used a teal acrylic paint and a puddy color chalk paint.
You don't have to use chalk paint I just happened to
have it from a previous project.)
You will also need,
lint free rags, water, two paint brushes,
dark aging cream and clear wax.
Add a small amount of water to your paint, mix.
With your paint brush start painting your
stool one section at a time.
You will want to paint in small sections because
acrylic dries fast and you want to wipe
off some of the paint while it is still wet.
You want to see some of the wood color
coming through your paint.
Paint on, wipe off until you have covered
your whole stool.
Bring out your puddy color paint and a
small paint brush.
Using a dry brush lightly dip it into your paint
and with a light hand brush the
paint onto your stool.
(I like to dap my brush onto a surface
to get some of the paint off of the brush.)
Put a small amount of water onto your lent free rag.
Rub the paint into your stool.
Do this in small sections.
Once you have painted your whole stool let it dry
for about an hour,
then using a lint free rag wipe on your aging cream,
rub it into your stool.
Let this dry for 24 hours.
It will dull down.
Then wax your stool.
You did it!
