Florida West Coast Shell Mirror

August,
can you believe how fast this summer is going?
For some reason it seemed to take forever to finish this summer project.
Here are some photos of my most recent Shell Mirror.
The crown
Working on these mirrors takes a lot of time and patience.
As you look at this mirror I would like to tell you a little of how my shell mirrors evolve.
Everything on my mirrors is found by me, my husband, family or friends. We comb beaches and bays looking for all these wonderful shells and creatures. ( Most are found on the west coast of Florida.)
This mirror is made with only Florida West Coast finds.
I do not take home anything that is alive.
Once we get our find home it is washed, sorted and dried.
Then each shell or object is placed in a container designated for its type.

This medium size shell mirror measures
 29 inches by 29 inches.
The top of this mirror is embellished with a red coral sea fan.
A clump of Oyster Shells is surrounded by Common Nutmeg,
Florida Crown Conch, three Florida Horse Conchs are sitting on top of the oyster shells,
Tulip Shells, Oyster Drills, and Florida cones.
Some other shells on this mirror are Olives, Moons,
Cockles, Whelks, and Tulips. There is also coral and worm shells.
There is a very small horseshoe crab, a star fish and a crab claw.
This Shell Mirror will soon be carefully packed up and it will be hand delivered to
Virginia and Jim Anderson.
The prefect home for a Florida West Coast Shell Mirror.
