How to Knit a Fall Scarf

This scarf is both knitted and crocheted.
I started this scarf by going to my scrap yarn stash, I then pulled yarns that had fall colors and texture.
For the body of my scarf I chose a med. weight green textured yarn and a thin silk nubby red brown yarn.
Using size 35 knitting needles, cast on nine stitches with your thick yarn.
Knit one row with thick yarn. Drop thick yarn.
Tie on your thin yarn. Knit two rows.
Pick up your thick yarn, knit one row with thick and thin yarns together. Drop your thick yarn.
Pick up your thin yarn. Knit two rows.
Pick up thick yarn knit one row with thick and thin yarns together.
Drop thick yarn. Knit two rows with thin yarn.
Continue this pattern until you have the length scarf you would like.
Finish the base of this scarf by casting off with your thick yarn.
This scarf is nice just like it is.
For a fall look more texture and color is in order.
To achieve this look I chose to use the free form method of crochet.
You will need to gather fall colors and textured yarns.( I chose a yellow fleck yarn to start.) Start at the bottom of your scarf, crochet using a simple chain stitch.
If you want more bulk you may want to do some double and triple crochet stitches along the way. Stitch back and forth and up freely until you reach the opposite end of your scarf.
Continue adding yarns with color and texture.
When making one of these scarfs, you have to relax and just go with it. There are no rules. Use the yarn that you want to and place it where you want it.
Continue in a random pattern, use colors and textures that look like fall leaves.
RELAX
Your scarf may not look like mine but it will be wonderful.
I added some white flecked yarn to mimic tree trunks.
At the bottom off your scarf you might want to loop some chain stitches together forming a ruffled edge.
My scarf is finished. WoO HoO!
If you make one off these scarfs please send me pictures I would love to see your creations. Happy knitting!
