I found a pair of denim sneakers a while back
and bought them with the thought that I would one day come
up with an idea of how to decorate them.
Today while I was looking in my craft closet I found
two brass buttons with anchors on them. I looked down and there sat the sneakers I had bought.
Then it occurred to me,"It's summer and the Fourth of July is right around the corner,
Then it occurred to me,"It's summer and the Fourth of July is right around the corner,
a nautical theme should work nicely. Now all I need is some rope."
For this project you need...
One pair of slip on sneakers with eyelets,
natural rope or jute,
two nautical buttons,
nylon thread,
a small needle and a large eye needle
The first step is to lace your sneakers.
Thread your natural rope into your large eye needle.
Start at the top left eyelet, put your needle through the hole
then bring the needle up through the next eyelet.
Go back down into the third eyelet, come up the fourth eyelet.
Now bring your thread across the shoe to the right side.
Place your needle down into the bottom eyelet and back up through the
next eyelet hole. Continue until you reach the top of the shoe,
leave about eight to ten inches of rope on each side of the shoe.
Lace both sneakers this way.
Now it is time to start tying knots.
Your first knot should be tied at the first eyelet
making sure to push your knot up tight to the eyelet.
Do this on both sides.
Make your next knot about an inch from your first knot.
Continue making your knots one inch apart on both sides of your sneaker.
Do this on both sneaker's.
of your sneakers so that you will not be pulling the rope too tight or leaving it too loose.
Now tie your knot and pull the knot tight. Cut the long ends of the rope leaving a quarter of an inch.
To secure the rope to your sneakers thread your nylon thread into your small needle.
Starting at one of the eyelets at the top of your sneaker,
sew the rope to your sneakers working your way around the shoe.
When you get to the back of the sneaker make sure to tuck the loose ends behind your rope.
Continue sewing until you have the rope securely sewn onto both sneakers.
Now all you need to do is sew on your buttons.
That was not to hard and now you have a cute pair of summer sneakers.
Enjoy!

Before you tie your knot in the back of your shoe, gently press the rope up against the sidesof your sneakers so that you will not be pulling the rope too tight or leaving it too loose.
